SPEAKING

I love sharing my stories and talking about human rights issues and what it takes to be a global human rights advocate, using humour and passion to inspire and engage new audiences.

I have been engaged to speak at big and small gatherings for groups from all sectors, on various human rights topics, including:

  • how to stand up for human rights in the new dystopian era

  • unpacking how to access and use the UN human rights mechanisms

  • turning local experiences into global advocacy

  • how rural women are changing the world

  • creating courageous spaces for building personal and organizational resilience for human rights defenders

  • healthy boundaries for human rights advocates

  • flipping the patriarchy to defend women’s rights and fight gender-based violence

  • how the global food crisis affects us all and what we can do about it

  • realizing the right to health for people of diverse sexual orientation and gender identity

  • careers in international public policy

  • debunking the myth of resilience

  • … and other topics

I speak regularly at the United Nations, and to groups of professionals including judges and lawyers (for example, for the International Bar Association), as well as diverse professionals at gatherings such as Chamber of Commerce events. I regularly speak on panels for graduate and undergraduate students about their careers, and have given presentations about human rights and international service to countless Rotary and Zonta and other community groups. And I have delivered speeches at International Women’s Day events around the world for many years.

Please get in touch if you’d like me to speak at your event.

“a thought-provoking speech
